Black Women Rock 2013 and The Protagonist

Chelsea Land-Director of Sales and myself

This past Saturday I had the great opportunity to be a vendor and finally show The Protagonist brand to the public as the director of social media for The Protagonist team at this years Black Women Rock event at The University of Missouri.  But what exactly is The Protagonist?

The Protagonist is a bow tie collection founded by the wonderful Cydni Meredith Robertson of
It's Her Strut and the multi-talented Zach McGowan in an effort to showcase one's Educated, Sophisticated, or Rebellious style in the form of a bow tie.  A protagonist is defined as the leading character in a story and that is exactly what each individual who wears our bow ties are-a protagonist!

Please be on the look out for more updates from The Protagonist!  There is more to come and I will be posting everything that is going on with the brand here!

Can't say much but yesterday was a very productive day.  Why?  Well because my partners and myself completed a photoshoot that has been in the developing stage for about a month.  I had the opportunity to work with a great team which included myself, my awesome partners, a wonderful model, and great stylist to get it all done.  Like I said, I can't reveal a lot but just know that I am working, and something amazing is coming!

Stay tuned!

WDDWT Boyz II Men Concert February 19th

Clothing: Grey Lineage Suit Jacket, Red Express Photographer Pants Accessories: Gold Herringbone, Bulova Watch Shoes: Florshiem
Late on this post but last night I went to see the legendary R&B group, Boyz II Men at Jesse Hall.  It was a great show and although much time has went buy since they first hit the scene in '91 they did not miss a beat.  The group put on an amazing performance and I am glad that I had the opportunity to see them live.  Sorry for the lack of picks of the show, although good, my seats were not as close as I wanted.

Now I did break a rule with this outfit.  Can anyone guess?  If not then it is to never wear your suit jacket without your suit.  Or so I have been told.  But on such short time I was not able to get a grey blazer and this was the outfit I had styled in my head.  Although I broke this rule I do not think it was noticed by my peers and other concert goers.

You can't tell from my pose but I noticed that the jacket was just a smudge big in the arms.  As I said earlier, many probably didn't notice but I am very conscious of what I wear and could feel it.  I will have to visit the tailor soon.

Same outfit minus the jacket
After the concert I had a meeting and what was worked on will soon be revealed!  I'm very excited to present it.  Until then you will have to wait and see.

Let me know what you think about my outfit in the comments below!

Adidas TMAC-1 Year of the Snake

Special box to celebrate the year of the snake
Look what the mailman delivered.  Today I received my Year of the Snake Adidas TMAC-1.  I ordered these on Sunday night from Pickyourshoes and have been patiently waiting and they have finally arrived!  When I first heard the news that these were releasing I was hype, the TMAC line by Adidas was awesome and I loved the sneakers that were released, this was a chance for me to re-live my childhood somewhat and also have a dope colorway.

Outside View
The first thing that sets these sneakers apart is the metallic turquoises snake like texture.  This is a synthetic upper.  The turquoises is accompanied with gold accents that is on the strip and also on the branding.  You also see the shell to cap that was specific to the TMAC line for protection in black which complements the turquoises and gold very well.

Inside View (Excuse the tag)
The forefoot of the shoe is perforated.  This is to make the shoe breathable when playing.

Inside and Outside Views
There is much technology that is incorporated into this shoe.  First off the ADIPRENE+ which is located in the forefoot.  The ADIPRENE technology is a shock absorbent material that protects your heel at impact due to the cushioning.  With ADIPRENE+ helps with propulsion and efficiency due to its responsive nature.  There is also TORSION SYSTEM which is a lightweight arch support at the midfoot.  This allows players the ability to move the forefoot and rearfoot independently of each other in order to have maximum stability and surface adaption.  There is also the traditional herringbone traction.

Inside View.  Also showing a better view of the perforated forefoot.

The inside of the shoe has an awesome artwork that goes along with the celebratory theme.

Hats off to Adidas with this sneaker.  There are not too many times where the shoe actually looks just as good as the promotional photos.  I am very happy with these and cannot wait to wear these.

Let me know your thoughts about the shoe below in the comments!

Why I Will Be Passing On the Air Jordan 3 Retro '88

Nike, one of the most innovative and impressive companies as well as my favorite brand is one that is so ingrained in our American Consumer culture.  The company with the creative ad campaigns and the company responsible for my favorite choice of footwear-Air Jordan's now known as Jordan Brand.

Anyone that knows me knows that I love sneakers.  I am always being asked "Are you getting that new pair of Jordan's that release on (insert date)?"  Most of the time I do plan on making that specific purchase but there are those few instances where I decide to pass and the release of the Air Jordan 3 Retro '88 in the upcoming months of 2013 will have to be one of these times.

Now when I heard that the Air Jordan 3's were to be retroed again sometime in 2013 donning the Nike Air branding on the heel I was very excited.  And I will not lie, this was a must cop for me.  Many sneakerheads rejoiced that they would now be able to wear the retro that is a favorite of many with the Nike Air logo .But then I learned of other news, a suggested retail price of $200.

For that $200 price tag I would rather find myself a 2001 pair than to buy this pair.  I honestly feel that this price is downright disrespectful of Jordan Brand.  Think about it.  This shoe has been re-released three other times as recent as 2011 granted without the Nike Air branding and instead with the Jumpman branding, and in 2011 the suggested retail price was $150.  Now I'm not trying to come off as cheap because I have paid over $200 for sneakers plenty of times but honestly, this shoe is not worth a fifty dollar price increase just because of a logo change in my opinion.  I will be happily content with my 2011 pair.

Yes, there is no denying that this is a pair that I would love to have but I will not fold for what I believe to be disrespect.  For that matter I do not need them.  Yes I will continue to buy Jordan's but not this particular pair.  I know that this will fly over most sneakerhead's heads and will be regarded as rubbish, me being cheap, or being mad that i won't be able to attain a pair.  None of the cases are true so I have no problem with that.  And this is in no way trying to stop people from buying this shoe, these are just my personal thoughts that others may share as well.

This also has nothing to do with the possible quality of this release.  Many sneakerheads complain about recent releases not holding up to the quality of the early 2000 models.  Yes it is true that the quality is lacking, but I believe that if the quality was a real issue then these sneakers would not be flying off the shelves, this is an issue of what I believe to be ethics.

Let me know if you will be purchasing this shoe in the comments below.

Old WDDWT from Dec 4th, 2012

While I was trying to edit this blog I accidentally deleted an older WDDWT post.  I can't remember what the subject was but here are the pictures below.

I do know that this is me walking through Stankowski Field heading to Dobbs dining hall.
